One of the coolest parts of being in the wedding industry is connecting with interesting and talented people who are living their dreams by pursuing their art. Matt Gossett is one of those people, and I'm excited to highlight him and his work as a makeup artist for people who are looking for that extra special glow in their portrait sessions or on their wedding day.
Can you tell us the story of how you became a makeup artist and how your business has evolved?
My makeup career all started when a former manager of mine took a chance on me when she opened the Sephora in Collierville. I've always had a passion for art. It's a great way to express oneself, and makeup is one of the purest forms of art in my opinion.
Taking the job there really helped me get my foot into the world of beauty. The way my career has evolved has been exciting. From working with brides to celebrities, and the everyday woman, it has been a blast! I'm very thankful for each person who has trusted me over the years with their makeup. I always say "I don't want to just be your bridal makeup artist. I want to be your lifetime makeup artist. From engagement, to bridal, and all the other important events in your life." Without my ladies, I wouldn't have the reputation that I have and that makes me blessed.
What can a bride expect when she books you for bridal/engagement sessions and the wedding day?
When a bride books with me she gets an experience. I want her to feel like herself but still be just as glamorous as she has she has always dreamed of. Getting to know a bride inside and out is one of the best parts. To sit her down and get to know her story. Every bride has a wedding style. It's my goal to make her makeup harmonize with her dress, hair, and all the other important details.
Is there a style that you're known for? What are some of your favorite looks for a bride?
I'm pretty much known for my version of "Romantic Bridal." I love to enhance her features so that they pop in her photos. A great soft smokey eye with fluttering lashes, a glowing complexion, and glossy lips is my favorite look on a bride. That way she can look back years from now and still feel classic and gorgeous!
Are there any makeup trends that we can expect to see in 2018?
In the bridal industry, it seems that the trends are always the same. The glowing look seems to be coming more to the forefront from years ago when ladies wanted to be more matte.
What's your favorite part of working with brides and their wedding parties on the big day?
I would say my favorite part is seeing all the bridesmaids come together for the bride's big day. Each girl has her own story of how she came into the bride's life. From grade school to college, or even a cousin that's more like a sister. It's so unique and special.
Thank you, Matt, for sharing your work and your heart with us! Brides, CALL HIM!!!!
