Interview with A Moveable Feast | Memphis Wedding Caterer
In the wedding industry, there are many, many moving parts and specialized vendors who all fulfill their specific role in making a wedding day the most fabulous and elegant experience for everyone attending. One of my favorite parts of being a Memphis wedding photographer is getting to know the work of talented vendors across the city and building friendships with them.
Today I’m excited to feature the Memphis catering company A Moveable Feast in our interview-style wedding vendor highlight! Every time we’ve been at a wedding together, I’ve been practically drooling over their delicious food! Thank you, A Moveable Feast, for being willing to share what you do so well!
Can you tell us the story of how A Moveable Feast came into being?
Hog Wild, our parent company, opened its doors in 1987 when they served a small gathering of people their famous Memphis BBQ. Gourmet cuisine and upscale catering became a serious focus in 2001 when Hog Wild catering company developed a new gourmet division called A Moveable Feast. We are one company with two names. A Moveable Feast has delivered unique and innovative menus ever since.
Can you share information about what A Moveable Feast offers a bride and groom who are in the beginning stages of planning a wedding?
Planning a wedding can be an overwhelming process. We are here to help and support brides and grooms while they select their menu for their special day. Since we have been in the catering business since 1987, we have had opportunities to work with wonderful professionals within the wedding industry, so we can assist our brides when they are searching for additional vendors who will help their big day be just perfect.
Your food looks delicious!!!! How does A Moveable Feast approach the balance of a beautiful table display and delicious food items?
We really listen to our clients. We ask them where they like to eat, what are their favorite foods, where they like to visit, etc. Then we talk about their vision for their wedding. Do they envision a more rustic reception with casual food? Or do they envision a more formal dinner? There are traditionally five basic styles of serving food for a reception.
*French style- Food is plated and served for a formal dinner.
*Fun family style-The entrees and side dishes are brought to the table with enough portions for each guest at that table
*Cocktail Style Reception-Some items are passed, and some are at stations. This is typically more one-bite options and finger foods.
*Food Stations-Food is grouped together by style, and guests can travel from table to table and try different options.
*Buffet Style Reception-All of the food is presented in a line, and the guests can choose what they place on their plate.
What makes a bride’s experience with A Moveable Feast unique?
We love to customize menus for our brides. From chicken and waffle fritters to infusing the groom’s favorite beer into an entrée, we want this to be a memorable and personalized experience for everyone and especially our bride and groom. Our amazing chefs are not afraid to try to create something unusual and are constantly testing new products to serve in a unique fashion.
What do you enjoy about the catering business in Memphis?
It has to be the amazing vendors and clients we work with that makes our industry so enjoyable. Memphis has so many talented wedding vendors: from photographers, florists, DJs, stationery designers, coordinators, make-up artists, hair stylists, and, of course, such amazing and unique venues that add so much charm to the evening. We look forward to continued success in the years to come. We wouldn’t be where we are today without wonderful clients.
